Headlights Depo or OEM Volkswagen
I think a few people asked in this thread if the manual adjustments actually make a difference, and I can confirm what other's have stated...using tape measures today, the manual adjustments change the center height of the self-leveling/adaptive system. It makes logical sense because even under the best of manufacturing conditions, both the headlight units and chasis will vary slightly, requiring the ability for manual adjustments to ensure proper, legal, alignment. About 1.5 turns for my setup seems to keep it within the guidelines for adjusting headlamps. For sure, VW went conservative and had them a bit lower.
I found the headlights to be nice and bright and cutoff at distance down the road seemed pretty good.
I never had an issue with my depo vento e-codes.
There's nothing wrong with the Depo smoked Vento e-codes. You just have to put a bead of black silicone around the edges where the glass meets the plastic housing for preventative watertight measures and they're fine.
DEPO are absolutely fine; they're not an OEM manufacturer for BMW, but they are for plenty of other brands so you shouldn't have the same concerns as you would with aftermarket rubbish. I've pulled them off scrapyard E30s before and they've been in better condition than the original stuff.
I'm happy with the quality, was a lot less than Hellas, been using them for 4 years with no issue, protected the lenses with film as they are glass, also fitted with HIDs
i have the 2 peice depo's that look like 1 piece and the quality id fair considering the price. they didn't align perfectly, but i think i'm the only one that notices. No bouncing or anything like that.
I replaced my OEM headlights a few years ago with DEPOs (absolute crap) lights after an accident and the insurance wouldn't pay for OEMs. After a few years of degrading visibility (spiderweb cracks throughout the plastic covers/lenses and crappy reflectors to begin with) I'm tired of not being able to see at night. * NOTE * NEVER BUY DEPO LIGHTS guys.
About 3 weeks ago, my right headlight (HID with AFS swivel motors) goes out and I get the message in the MFD - \"AFS Inoperative\" followed by \"Lower Right Dipped Beam out\" (or something to that effect).
I replaced the stock headlamps with Depo black euro headlights and was fine for 6 months, then the bulb recently blew up again! Shards of glass ruined the almost new headlamp! The wiring must be iffy since there has been some meltage, my guess is too much current on the right side.
