Fuel filter Mann or Wix

Wix Fuel filter

I just swapped the fuel filter in my 97. Got a wix filter at O'Reilly's for less than 30 bucks. I believe it's the same filter for the 03, but if not they still make them and they're very similar. It should have two ports on one side, and one on the other in the direction of flow.

Pros: cheap, easy to install

I am a sucker for Mann so I bought it. Took out the old filter, and no fuel coming from inside the filter. Slammed it couple of times and finally the fuel came out, black. It’s literally like black coffee coming out from the filter. Installed the new fuel filter, and cranked the car couple of time to let the fuel pumped to the engine. And finally it starts, but it misfired here and there. Crank it couple more times and it starts normally. The idle is absolutely silky smooth. And the performance improved a lot.

Pros: silky smooth idle, improved performance
Cons: misfired here and there

Wix Fuel filter

Plastic ones made by Wix or similar brand are good, wouldnn't recommend cheap no-name ones, no guarantee that the plastic in those is suitable. Wix/similar are not a firehazard if fitted properly.

Pros: good, not a firehazard
Cons: plastic may not suitable

The responses inspired me to replace my fuel filter. I went for a drive and it seems like the engine sounds much smoother.

Mann Fuel filter

Mann from ECS for me. Every other filter change I pull what fuel is left in the housing, refill with your diesel treatment of choice and then prime. For me it’s just a bit of extra lube for the pump on my ‘14 JSW. When I skip this step I don’t prime and never had an issue.

Pros: easy to install, no issues
Vehicle: Volkswagen

The best would be OEM. But Mann is what I used to replace mine. Didn\u2019t feel any difference though and I had about 108k on my car.

Cons: didn't feel any difference
Mileage: 108000 km

I got a plastic body wix and could not for the life of me get it seal up properly where the filter meets the housing, needless to say I'll be getting a ac Delco and changing it.

Cons: difficult to seal
