Engine radiator MISHIMOTO or Denso

I spent two years (off and on, as it only overheated when idling in 90+ degree conditions or when doing low-speed jeep trail climbing in the heat) chasing this on my rig. Over time, replaced fluid, thermostat, radiator cap, clutch fan. No joy. Finally pulled the radiator, and the front fins were horribly blocked. Replaced with a new Denso, and problem solved. Only issue with the new Denso was that the mounting rails on the new radiator were shite, but it was a matter of four bolts to swap over the old rails (with upper shroud still attached) to the new radiator.

Pros: problem solved, effective cooling
Cons: poor mounting rails

I’ve got Mishimoto’s X-Line radiator. It’s an absolute beast of a rad. I’ve had mine for 7 years of daily driving and track days, and I’ve had zero problems with it. I fully expect it to last for the life of my M3.

Not everyone has great things to say about Mishimoto rads, but from what I can tell their X-Line rads are built very well.

Pros: absolute beast, zero problems, built well, long lasting

I blew my stock one around 60,000km, then the STI replacement around 100,000km. Fixed the issue with a Mishimoto aluminum rad.

Pros: fixed overheating issue, aluminum construction
Vehicle: Subaru

MISHIMOTO Engine radiator

when installing it with the OEM rubber hangers, I had to persuade the radiator into place with some lag bolts. It definitely doesn't go in like the stock one; looks like the end tanks on the Mishimoto unit hit in several places, preventing it from seating exactly where the original goes.

Cons: hit in several places
Vehicle: Volkswagen
