Valvoline Restore and Protect. This newly designed oil can, and does, remove up to 100% of engine deposits. Including those found on and around the piston rings. A major contributing factor to oil blow-by, or general usage between oil changes. It take a couple 4k mile oil changes to work. Everything I have researched shows that it does work and many, most even, report a significant reduction in burning oil between oil changes, but do your own research! :) I wasn't having oil burning issues in my 8th gen, but still ran it through a couple times because it certainly won't hurt anything!

Pros: removes engine deposits, reduces oil burning
Vehicle: Honda Civic

Assuming you don’t have an obvious oil leak, which at that rate it would be, the best you can do is try to switch to Valvoline Restore and Protect oil. It’s getting rave reviews for its ability to clean piston rings on bobistheoilguy.

Pros: cleans piston rings, rave reviews
Vehicle: Volvo V60

VALVOLINE Engine oil

Just use valvoline restore and protect and you’re safe to go! My elantra is a 2021 with 43k miles and I haven’t had even one issue with the engine so far. I bought it with 41k miles and there’s nothing like the peace of mind I sense knowing I can rely on it to take me where I need to go. Idk if it’s the oil or what, but I’m impressed.

Pros: engine reliability, peace of mind
Mileage: 43000 km

PENNZOIL Engine oil

Great oil, I go with the Ultra Platinum. So far it's been the absolute quietest (based on subjective valvetrain sound) and smoothest driving oil I ever used. I tried OEM, Valvoline, Castrol. Nothing was as smooth as the Pennzoil even after a few thousand miles. I still change it every 5k for peace of mind.

Pros: quietest, smoothest driving
Mileage: 5000 km

I just found this thread. I have a 2014 Jetta 1.8t with 107k that I bought for my daughter two years ago and it burns through a quart of oil about every month. It dropped cyinder 1 similar to what the other person experienced, but new plugs and ignition coils solved the problem.

Pros: solved the problem
Cons: burns through oil
Mileage: 172201 km
