If you can use Redline 5w30, go right ahead. You will not have an issue. I call Redline the guarantee oil. I can pretty much guarantee that you will never have the dreaded lifter tick. It has been known to quieten a ticking engine too.
It's recommended by Nissan to use ester based oil. I use redline 5w-30. Pricey but I feel the difference and motor runs flawless imo
Using Redline 5w-50 on my E90 M3. it's supposed to have a similar viscosity at high temps as most 60wt oils. Comes up to operating temp faster and doesn't overheat.
My 1.8t is currently filled with Rotella T6 and I swear its eating less oil now (or maybe I'm getting better with my heavy foot)
I always buy engine oil from Lotus (Tesco). Shell Helix especially on sale.
I also switched to a 50 weight, Redline.
I was seeing moderate oil consumption and the heavier viscosity seems to have fixed that issue
The same oil goes into all GDI engines at my dealer, which is Shell Helix Ultra SP 0W-20. This is a super expensive, latest spec oil. Oil changes with this oil are done at 9320 miles if turbocharged and 18 640 miles if naturally aspirated.
I have a buddy that used the Shell Rotella diesel oil that is dirt cheap for his 2009 r1.
The best oil to use is the RedLine full synthetic two-stroke Racing oil. Modern full synthetic two stroke oils are way better than older oils and work great.
I'm at 365,000 km and switched to Shell Rotella T6 probably 30-40k ago. Oil consumption was at last halved - the detergents in that oil really help clean up deposits in the rings, or so I'm told.
