I have always used 15w-50 on VR6's and 5w-40 on 1.8t's and 10w-60 on the track cars. Try out Rotella T6 5w-40. I ran Motul 5w-40 on my 911 and it made tons of extra noise, went to Rotella T6 under advice from my tuner and it quieted it right down. Been using it on my Saab as well which has a noisy chain setup as well and it worked wonders.
I've changed my TDI's oil every 10K miles since it was new. It currently has 330K miles on it and runs like a watch.
I've been hearing lots of good stuff about Rotella t-6 i just changed mine to that the first time this month for the winter
So this morning I went n got some Rotella T6 5w40. filled her up and drove it pretty far. The light didnt come back on. I guess all I needed was an oil change? Sounds a lot quieter in idle too, no ticking besides the fuel injectors.
I go back and forth between white jug rotella in the summer and t6 in the winter. It's cheap, and I've never had any issues.
My local AZ sells Mobil 1 10W-40 Racing 4T, Castrol 10W-40 and 20W-50 synthetic bike oil, and the best bargain of the bunch is Shell Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic T6, which is [rated JASO-MA and MA2](http://s7d9.scene7.com/is/content/GenuinePartsCompany/1843126pdf) (although claimed to meet the spec by Shell, it's apparently not officially certified by JASO).
Shell Rotella T. The normal type NOT the synthetic. It's a diesel oil you can use with gasoline engines. It's got all the good stuff you need.
Rotella T6 is very popular for turbo Subarus. It's 5w-40, which has some advantages. It's cheap at $20/gallon.
I've been using these docs for a while now, and am incredibly grateful for you sharing them. With that said, I just noticed something that's news to me. Both the \"Revised Oil Capacity Job Aid\" and the 2012 vs 2013 fluid capacity charts show a 1 qt decrease in engine oil capacity between 2012 and 2013 MY. I've always heard there were insignificant, minor changes between the model years. I've been putting 5ish into my 2012 and it's always been full according to the dipstick.
Speaking of Rotella, Here's a personal observation of mine. My beater Saturn 1.9 has a lifter tick (not fixing it, don't care), so I just put in Rotella T, and it quiets it up a bunch!
