Engine oil Shell or OEM Volkswagen

Shell Engine oil

Shell Rotella (Rimula) 10W40, mines on 165k, 6 months ago I did the O2 Pilot mod and started to use the above oil as it's fully synthetic and made for Buses, Heavy Trucks etc, and so has extremely good cleaning abilities. My oil consumption has dropped almost 4 fold and the cams, rockers, oil filter housing have all been cleaned of the varnish type coating they had too.

Pros: good cleaning abilities, reduced consumption
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 165000 km

Shell Engine oil

The oil type is likely fine, but the viscosity isn't. Ignore what the book says, get the 5W30 out of there. The PDs love to eat cams, and running 5W30 makes the problem worse. Me personally, I run Shell Rotella T6 5W40.

Cons: cams love to eat

Shell advance long ride or power you have two choices for fully synthetic trust me dude once you try shell there's no going back castrol is the worst for Royal Enfield and motul is better suited for high compression engines like KTM etc

Pros: fully synthetic, no going back
Cons: castrol is the worst

Shell Engine oil

I run Shell Rotella T6 15W-40 diesel engine oil in my Versys. It has all the ratings necessary for a motorcycle engine and a wet clutch, and it is a quarter of the cost of bike oils.

Pros: quarter of the cost

Shell Engine oil

Rotella 5w-40, for no other reason than it is good oil that I can use in every internal combustion engine I own, including wet clutches.

Pros: good oil
Cons: too thin IMO

Wife has a 2015 jetta with the 1.8t and burns 1L every 500 -700 miles. My 2016 a3 burns relatively nothing but maybe half a liter every oil change interval and has same engine.

Pros: burns relatively nothing
Cons: burns 1L every 500-700 miles

My Mk4 Golf is at 146000. And I've religiously changed oil and filter every 4000. One time I let this synthetic oil go for 9000 miles, it caused pre-ignition and destroyed 2 sparkplugs, needed a tow, and a expensive sparkplug replace at VW.

Cons: caused pre-ignition, destroyed sparkplugs
Mileage: 146000 km
