Shell Engine oil

Rotella T5 15W40 seems to be on sale somewhere at all times for an absurdly low price + a filter. Ive been using that in my JH block with G60 topside.

Pros: absurdly low price

I used to use Castrol GTX 20W50 oil with Bardahl B2 additive, but after some discussion on the Bob is the oil guy forum, I decided to try a lighter oil: Shell Rotella 15W40 without any additive. It feels a bit easier to start and runs great (but it did ran great before). However, the oil pressure is certainly lower

Pros: easier to start, runs great
Cons: lower oil pressure

I've used Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 and 0w-40 in my AQY. (we have cold winters here) Both seem to work well, no additional lifter noises, normal mileage. Engine sounded good even just before this years oil change.

Pros: normal mileage, engine sounded good
Cons: had to add oil
Mileage: 9000 km

Go find some Shell Rotella T6 at Walmart and use that. 5W-40, and it is rated JASO-MA so it's safe for wet clutch applications. I run it in both bikes and my car; it stands up to sheer and fuel dilution well.

Pros: safe for wet clutch

You need to run the 507.00 spec oil. I have been running Shell Rotella T6 Heavy Duty Diesel 5W-40 oil. They other one that I want to start using and is more widely recommended is Liqui Moly 4200 Top Tec 5W-30. The reason why I mention this is because the 507.00 spec oils has better lubrication then the other 501 and 506 spec oils. If the wrong spec oil is used it has a tendency to produce premature Cam shaft lobe wear requiring the replacement of the cam shafts.

Pros: better lubrication
Cons: wrong spec causes wear
Vehicle: Volkswagen Touareg
