Have used the T6 myself for years in assorted VW's and Volvos with reduced oil consumption as compared to the VW 504 oils.
I am now testing Motul x-cess which should be even better
It isnt either mentioned, but I have used the RotellaT6 with good results. I did this for my first oil change after I bought the car used. Not sure what the previous owner used, but the chains quieted down quite a bit.
Shell Rotella T for the win - get it cheap at your local Walmart in gallon jugs. Side note on collapsed lifters - ATF Type F, added to the oil and a 5-10 min idle cycle before you change the oil can really help clean them out for cheap. Note, ATF has a lot of cleaners in it, and is thin, DO NOT rev it...just let it idle. Worked awesome on my old Coupe GT 5 cyl with horrid lifters.
Mine doesn't use any, and it gets an italian tuneup every time I start it. Running Rotella T6 5w40
here in hawaii i'm running 15-50 with 8k or so intervals. oil test has com eup clean. motul oil as of last oil change, pentosin before that. when i ship my car, i will be swtiching to a lighter weight as i will actually see outside temps below 70* motul FTW:beer: i say run 10-40 motul, this one.. http://www.sears.com/motul-839451-6100-synergie-10w-40-technosynthese/p-SPM7359011402P
I have used royal purple once and didnt really are for it... But now i have been using motul 8100 x-cess 5w40 on my 06 2.5l rabbit for the past 5 oil changes and it works amazing... I'm going on 6500 miles right now and it still has a yellowish tint to it, like clean oil! I do some autocross, some quarter miles, and I drive a little aggressive... This oil is awesome an I would definitely recommend it...
My guy uses Motul 5w-30 in my CC.
On my MKV GTI when I switched to a thinner Motul from a thicker Pentosin I noticed a good bump in power.
Those engines do burn oil. Clogged PCV would be the first to eliminate. Go w/a HD 5w-40 like Rotella.
