Engine oil Shell or MOTUL

Shell Engine oil

Phattbotti tuning has done oil sample tests in multiple oils and he says Rotella T6 5w-40 is the best bang for the buck.

Pros: best bang for buck

I use Castrol for the Nexon and Punch. The Safari uses Shell. Shell and Castrol are by far the best I've come across. Shell is much much better for the cold weather, by what I've observed.

Pros: better for cold weather

Only used Motul 300V 5w30 or 5w40 since I bought the car new in 2009. Today I'm on 178k kilometers and still on the first chain and chain tensioner. No rattle, no oil consumption or what so ever.

Pros: no oil consumption, no rattle
Mileage: 178000 km

Run Rotella in my 80’s and 90’s BMW’s often. They seem to like it, and sometimes it’s cheap at Walmart.

Pros: seem to like it
Vehicle: BMW

I've used a number of different oils in my XS400 over the past couple years, can't say I've noticed much of a difference other than when I used a 15W40 the engine was a lot noisier, going back to 20W50 and the engine quieted down a lot.

Pros: engine quieted down
Cons: engine was noisier
