Engine oil Shell or AMSOIL

Shell Engine oil

I use Rotella 5-w40. I've been using it for like 5 years in my 02 1.8t and haven't noticed any wear really at all. I drive pretty aggressive, redline 3+ times a day.

Pros: no noticeable wear, good for aggressive driving
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: 5-W40

AMSOIL Engine oil

It's a little more pricey but extends change intervals and has worked for me. Keeps engine temps a bit cooler as well.

Pros: extends change intervals, keeps temps cooler
Cons: a little more pricey

I have done really well with Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 as well. All are good oils that you can get away with changing every 5-6,000 miles.

Pros: done really well, good oil
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 9656 km

Pros: working out quite well, low oil consumption
Vehicle: Audi A3
Mileage: 3219 km
Part number: ROTELLA T6

AMSOIL Engine oil

i change at the extended interval and use only 100% synthetic oil usually Amsoil. I plan on using the same in my TDI at the normal service interval unless vw makes a full syn diesel oil

Pros: 100% synthetic oil
Mileage: 900 km

Shell Engine oil

When I bought my '80 MB 300SD I did an oil chamge with 15w40 Rotella. The first day it dropped below 35* it struggled to start. Below 25* it needed a few hours of block heater time. I changed it out to 5w40 Rotella T synth and 6 years later I've still never plugged it in, even in -10*F.

Pros: excellent cold start performance, long-term reliability
