I have been using Mobil1 for a long time in all my cars. AFAIK it has performed will in independent testing for this car as well but the consensus is that the shell rotella is the best stuff you can get. i have also recently switched to 5w20 instead of 0w20 because i live in a climate where it never really gets cold and i wanted something a touch heavier for auto-x abuse. most people agree that we are talking about a very minor difference at best, but it does feel a touch smoother now.
Mobil 1 15W50 [emoji106] Has plenty of ZDDP
I have used Mobil one for 25yrs and never had an engine problem. I have a 1978 Alfa that uses Mobil one for most of it's life when the oil was released and the engine is perfect.
For oil changes, use BMW, Mahle, or Mann filters and any LL-01 approved oil. Mobil1 0w40 is what I've been using and never had any problem.
As mentioned above, you should consider Mobil 0w40 oil. I've used it for 4 winters now, driving in very similar conditions to what you're seeing, and the oil basically looks new every time I change it at 7000 miles.
I'd recommend changing the oil to a good brand 0W-40, Mobil or Shell. Replace the oil filter as well.
I ran Mobil 1 ESP 5w40 in my 2.0 TDI for 80k miles and it was great. However it was discountinued so I switched to the Mobil 1 euro spec 5w30 ESP and continued to 120k miles and shortly after switching it gained nearly 2mpg. Both oils remained steady on the dipstick so if it used oil it was very little.
I used light 5w-30 Edge and 0w-30 Mobil 1 SL in my APR 2.0T 6M and had ultra low wear.... With all the advantages of light oil.
I've had issues with Mobil1 0w-40 oil, even though it "meets the spec", and switching to a different brand resulted in less timing chain and valve train noise, and quieter cold starts, which typically means less wear, so I switched.
I was using Mobil 1 fully synth 5w40 on my old cab with no problem at all. good pressure at idle and at 2k. I used this oil in my new cab (same engine) and boom! No oil pressure at for the first 15 secs. Then it immediately jumped to 5 bars and finally settled down to 1 bat maybe less. However, I saw a dramatic increase in oil pressure even with the 5W40 mobil 1 when I switched to a 2L oil pump. Idle pressure was arround 2bars. Although I used it last summer and it worked just fine throught my vacations in Greece.
