Engine oil Mobil or LIQUI MOLY
I've been using Mobil 1 10w30 regular and now High-Mileage Synthetic for decades and most of the Jeeps life.
There’s been a lot of advancements in oils since the YJ was new. I use Mobil 1 0w40 in mine due to its excellent temperature range and proven endurance.
Mobile 1 full synthetic 0W-20 every 5K. My engine hums like a top.
Oil changes are cheap enough now that Mobil1 ESP 0w-30/5w-30 which is Approved by VW as 507 spec is around $28 per jug at Walmart. I'd change it more frequently and not chance it on the 2015 TDI engines in USA.
CKRA Passat, 164k miles, every 10k miles oil changes since new without negative experience. I did a Blackstone report once and oil looked good. I have used Rowe, Liquimoly, Fuchs and Mobil1 ESP.
I have a 14 Passat. I do full synthetic LiquiMoly with the VW spec. I change it out every 6-6500 miles.
Liquimoly leichtlauf 5w40. Been told it’s a bit better than 5w30 in a 20+ year old engine due to being a bit thicker. Also does better at higher temps and I drive like a dick
Mobil 1 is a fantastic oil.
Ughh. How did I miss that! I thought I was just saving $5 a liter for the same thing. I am so annoyed with myself. :banghead: I just pulled up the specs for both and indeed the Synthoil has a viscosity index of 171 vs 180 for the Leichtlauf. Also the NOACK for Synthoil is 12.9% vs 10.0% for Leichtlauf. From what I can tell the 12.9% NOACK of Synthoil is what doesn't allow it to have the VW 502 00 approval.
i got a little valve clatter when i went to 0w40 on my next oil change i'll be using 5w40 (synthetic)
