Used this in my last st till I sold it… had 235,000kms on it and still ran like a champ.
Dann einfach rein damit.
Idemitsu is responsible for the oil that powered the Mazda 787b; they know the rotary like no other. I exclusively use their synthetic 20w50 and premix.
Liqui Moly 10w40 MoS2
These are old engines, they were run on garbage oil and only idiots go bragging about this, regarless the old standards included zinc and other additives no longer available today due to environmental protection regulations. Ive had 7 of those classics pre 1990s and all of them got the MoS2 treatment - the engines turn around after 2-3 oil changes. Sparkling clean. Smooth.
Regarding brands, if you want to stick with factory oil without dealer price, Idemitsu is the brand to get. I emailed Mazda corporate and they said Idemitsu is the OEM for their oil.
Any oil that carries the BMW LL-01 approval should do the trick.
I’ve used German Castrol(aka Castrol Syntec 0W-40 made in Germany) or Liqui-Moly Leichtlauf 5W-40 in my old 650i with no issues.
my switched his n55 to liqui from bmw dealer oil and he said it runs wayyy better and quieter.
Since started using Liqui Molly (2 years and about 8k ago) fuel consumption improved by at least 2/3rds and the oil consumption slowed down not to mention top end is much quieter.
Liquimoly Leichtlauf (Hight Tech) exceeds factory standards, and is designed for VW engines. I’ve been running it for years in our Tiguan with a Mann oil filter. It’s a great oil, our 13’ tiggy runs great and is the only oil I would ever run in an old TSI motor.
Liqui Moly is just mediocre MADE IN GERMANY oil. Castrol Edge Titanium 0w40 is a good oil, as is Mobil 1 Euro FS 0w40 IMO Redline 0w40 or Amsoil Signature Series 0w40 are better oils.
