I use Pentosin Pento HP II fully synthetic Euro Spec 5w-40 oil (made by Fuchs Oil in Germany). According to test data I have read it is a much better oil than the Mobil 1 oil. I believe that the 5w-40 oil provides greater protection against oil vaporization, as the OM642 can run at elevated temperatures leading to high oil temperatures, which tends to break down the oil sooner.
After talking to a European mechanic. He said u need Germany oil for a German car. American oil is trash bc of the EPA regulations. He recommended Pentosin. The tick tock went away and I've been using it every oil change
I have been using the Pentosin in mine and have not had any cam issues after putting in a new cam.
I've been putting 10w-40 ELF 70 STI regular oil in my 1.6 petrol from '98 for 3 years now with no issues.
I got my 2018 Sprinter and so have used the Pento HPII in that as well.
Pentosin is fine, Mobil 1 is fine, Castrol, whatever. I put Mobil 1 in my racecar but castrol in my daily because it burns oil and I want a heavier weight that I can't find Mobil 1 in. Pentosin or LiquiMoly are good, but don't put too much thought into it.
I use pentosin. Made for vws. Change it every 10k. Good quality filter and you'll be good
I use Pentosin in the e46, which I believe is BMW OEM supplier.
5w40 for sure, my engine sounds happier, quieter, more sound than it did when the PO had 5w30 in it. So 5w40 is a given especially since you have a lot of Km on the clock, when it comes to the brand it really doesn't matter especially if you keep the oil change intervals reasonable.
Now, I realized that the engine oil the mechanic put on when I got the camshaft replaced in november, is actually meant for cars. The oil is the ELF sporti TXI 10W40.
