Brake pads R1 Concepts or Duralast

R1 Concepts Brake pads

Rotors were getting rusted decided to have them replaced with R1 Concepts Brake pads and Drilled/Slotted rotors. They perform a little better than the OEM with a quicker breaking point.

Pros: quicker breaking point
Cons: rotors were getting rusted

Duralast Brake pads

My 2017 is a bone stock daily driver and I have no plans to do any major upgrades or track my car. That being said, I've never had an issue with duralast gold pads and rotors from autozone. Reasonably priced and the pads have a lifetime warranty, meaning you buy them once and can trade the used ones back in for a new set at any time, no questions asked. The rotors have a 3 year warranty and even though mine are only showing some very minor wear, I'm going to take advantage of the warranty and swap them out for a new set in the next few months befor my 3 years is up.

Pros: reasonably priced, lifetime warranty
Cons: minor wear
Vehicle: Subaru

Duralast Brake pads

I'm using Dynamic Friction pads from RockAuto and they haven't let me down, grey performance and heat barely affects it.

Lasted through two track days and still have a ton of pad life left.

Pros: long lasting, heat resistant

AutoZone Duralast Ceramics have basically lasted forever. They have a lifetime replacement for free, so I paid like $100 for front pads once, and gotten em free since. Easy DIY.

Pros: long lasting, easy DIY

Duralast Brake pads

I just put Duralast Elite Ceramic pads and Duralast Gold rotors on my 2017 5.0 and have been very pleased with them. While not physically measured I’m of the opinion stopping distance has been reduced. Everything you need is in the box and rotors are coated to resist corrosion and have no film to remove before installation.

Pros: reduced stopping distance, easy installation

New rotors and pads without breaking in at all, just normal driving as soon as changed. Pads lasted 30.000km ish, while rotors wrapped at about 40.000km ish (pads replaced at 30k with same R1 concepts). Brake feel and performance was OK, but much worse than when broken in. Light squeal at about 15.000km and onwards. New rotors and pads following break in procedure, 10 stops from 90km/h (55mph aprox), never coming to a complete stop, then driving 30 minutes never coming to a complete stop, rolling to a stop on neutral and waiting another 30 minutes. Pads lasted about 40.000km ish, rotors lasted 80.000km ish, pads replaced at 40.000km with same R1 concepts ceramic.

Pros: longer life with break in
Cons: squealing, worse performance
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 40000 km

Rockauto carries Dynamic Friction kits. People will say "Rockauto is cheap shit" and then recommend R1 Concepts. But Dynamic Friction OWNS R1 Concepts and all of their pads and rotors are the same. Only difference is R1 does drilled and slotting while Dynamic are just blank rotors. So you really don't have to spend the extra money on R1 stuff. Also, you don't need slotted rotors for everyday driving. Heck, even some track guys still use blanks just fine. Only thing to worry about for track is pads, which I wouldn't recommend any of the R1 stuff for. Had one of their pads claiming both track and street but their pad material on one of their pads completely disintegrated on track.

Cons: pad material disintegrated
