Seems like there would be room in the market for a slightly detuned S55 base model without the fancy seats, brakes and wheels for about $5-8k less like the M3/M4: M3/M4 Competition.

OEM Toyota Brake pads

I just had my sister-in-law's 2008 Highlander in my garage on Sunday after she professed that at 150k miles that the brakes were finally making some noise. I ordered a round of rotors and pads and intended to spend a few hours replacing the brakes and the blower motor for the front, as it has been a bit inconsistent in operation. I put the Highlander up on jackstands and pulled the wheels off, and the brakes looked like they had about 10k miles on them.. I was just stunned. I ended up just putting some brake squeal compound on the back of the pads and sent her on her way. They are truly robust and under-rated vehicles.

Pros: robust, under-rated vehicles
Vehicle: Toyota Highlander
Mileage: 150000 km

Have yet to find a better street pad than BMW's OE compound. Ceramics dust less but feel terrible.

Pros: better than ceramics
Cons: Ceramics feel terrible
Vehicle: BMW

Great cars. They like to eat brakes in regular intervals. With 70k make sure there is no front end shimmy that is the result in worn control arm bushings/warped brake rotors.

Cons: eats brakes regularly
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 70000 km

OEM BMW Brake pads

The OEM brake pads were painfully inadequate for anything more than street driving. Interestingly enough, the rest of the brake components were designed very good and they have a lot of capacity. A simple pad upgrade and brake fluid flush proved sufficient for more serious track days.

Pros: simple pad upgrade sufficient
Cons: pads painfully inadequate
Vehicle: BMW

I vastly prefer my R to the BMW. I think the R drives better, its more tossable, i feel like the steering is better weighted and the brakes are much better.

Pros: brakes are much better

Brakes were excellent. The pedal was rather easy to push down on with little feedback, but the brakes were very powerful feeling, smooth, and the car stopped straight. Modulation was easy to control. I tried a hard stop and did not provoke the ABS system, nice it only comes into play when I need it.

Pros: powerful feeling, smooth
Cons: little feedback
