Brake pads Hawk Performance or Duralast

Hawk Performance Brake pads

I put Hawk Performance drilled and slotted on my 2017 STI. Ceramic pads. Have saved my car a couple times when assholes decided to jump the line and do a U-turn in front of me.

Pros: saved car from accidents
Vehicle: Subaru

I swap mine the day before. They aren't race pads, just hawk hp+. I wouldn't want to daily them, they're loud and dusty but work totally fine on the street so I drive them to my track days

Pros: work fine on street
Cons: loud, dusty
Vehicle: Toyota

Sure OEM pads and calipers can stop a loaded truck on the street, but what about when your loaded truck is on a long downhill rough trail? Your brakes get very hot and you can get brake fade and too much heat can damage components, warp rotors, etc (especially after hot brakes meet cool puddle or creek crossing). I went with Dynamic Friction Ultimate Duty pads and I am glad I did because i hit a bunch of those downhill trails the next trip and they got hot, could smell them, but no brake fade and no issues since.

Pros: no brake fade, no issues

Duralast Brake pads

My 2017 is a bone stock daily driver and I have no plans to do any major upgrades or track my car. That being said, I've never had an issue with duralast gold pads and rotors from autozone. Reasonably priced and the pads have a lifetime warranty, meaning you buy them once and can trade the used ones back in for a new set at any time, no questions asked. The rotors have a 3 year warranty and even though mine are only showing some very minor wear, I'm going to take advantage of the warranty and swap them out for a new set in the next few months befor my 3 years is up.

Pros: reasonably priced, lifetime warranty
Cons: minor wear
Vehicle: Subaru

Hawk Performance Brake pads

I used these Hawk brake pads for a HPDE track day so they did get very hot. They still have 10mm of thickness left, but this particular pad has these very pronounced cracks. All other pads have very minor cracks (barely visible), but this one was the worst.

Pros: 10mm thickness remaining
Cons: pronounced cracks

Hawk Performance Brake pads

I did two track days on these new hawk hp+ brake pads and Zimmerman rotors. After the first track day, something weird started happening: I started hearing the squealing that I hear while breaking even when I’m not breaking. It’s not constant, but it’s coming from all four wheels and is mostly heard at low speeds, especially after starting to drive after coming to a complete stop. These are two track days in. Should I be worried?

Cons: squealing noise, low speed
