I drove over to Autozone and asked to borrow their battery/alternator scanner. CC amperage was way down, so just threw a new battery in there, and all is good. Ended up costing $230 even with tax, and $22 core charge credit for their Duralast with a 3 year warranty.

Pros: new battery, all good
Cons: CC amperage way down
Vehicle: Kia

I use an Optima Yellow Top battery and it made a big difference. The Yellow Top is honestly just good for the car in general.

Pros: made a big difference, good for car
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Outlander

OPTIMA Battery

Optima seems to be the only brand of cylindrical Pb batteries for automotive use... pretty much every other automotive Pb battery is prismatic.

That's the first I've seen one fail this way.

Cons: fail this way

OPTIMA Battery

I went through 2 of them in my Corvette. The last one was making sizzling noises after I needed a jump from a 200 amp battery jumper. The top of the battery was meled,.Not worth the money. Never again!!!

Cons: went through 2, sizzling noises
Vehicle: Chevrolet Corvette

Optimas are not the brand they once were, I would never put one in my vette after the brand new $300 red top I put in my Durango basically exploded a week after I put it in.

Cons: exploded quickly, poor reliability
Vehicle: Dodge Durango
