I have a 96 that I purchased with 40,000 miles and am just shy of 300,000. Most reliable car I've ever owned. Biggest "issue" I've had was replacing the alternator besides normal maintenance.

Pros: most reliable car
Cons: alternator replacement
Vehicle: Toyota Camry

GENERAL MOTORS Alternator

The OEM alternator is only 55 amps and costs nearly $400, which is stupid expensive and wholly inadequate for off-road lighting, audio amplifiers, and other additional accessories so I decided to go with the CS130D GM alternator, purchased for under $100 new (no core charge) and has a 130 amp capacity.

I'm getting 14.8v from the upgraded alternator at 700rpm and maintaining 14.2v when every possible accessory and light is turned on at idle.

Pros: 130 amp capacity, under $100
Cons: OEM is expensive, inadequate

Mine went dead a couple years ago on my 2012 camry and local shops quoted me upwards of $400 for it. So I YouTubed an instructional video, bought one off ebay for less than $100, and it was going strong up until I sold it earlier this year.

Pros: going strong
Cons: expensive local shops
Vehicle: Toyota Camry

OEM Toyota Alternator

FWIW when I had to replace the alternator on my 2008 last summer, the dealer only had OEM Toyota remans. The first one had a bad regulator or something and was clicking like crazy out of the box. They exchanged it no questions but said that's nearly never happened. Next one has been fine.

Pros: next one has been fine
Cons: clicking like crazy
Vehicle: Toyota

I’m having this same issue without the positive results. Brand new alternator battery is good. It does not drive! Turns itself off and says charging system malfunction.
