I called the dealership to see if they have an alternator for a 2002 is300. Crazy enough they still sale them! List price is $344 but you do get a discount from the core of the OEM alternator only. These alternators are reman but it’s from the dealership (actually denso) so it’ll have the quality to go with it. I ended paying $216 due to my employee discount on top of the core exchange.
I'm thinking about getting a Denso remanufactured unit for my Accord. The price isn't much more than the local auto store brand alternators, but those are notorious for being unreliable.
Denso is the only reman brand I will use.
I kept driving it and it eventually completely lost voltage. Threw another Denso in there and it’s golden.
Put a Denso rem one from Rock Auto on my 07 and it was great.
Denso alternator for the 1.8L
That’s the OEM alternator without the Honda label on it.
Drove it for a day and the alternator crapped out. Installed a new one asap.
Denso reman from rock auto, youtube the job. Plan for up to 4 hours if you're a first timer.
Drives fine, maybe a bit of whirr from the alternator area but hard for my ears to tell of that's out of normal none of the unhappy noise from before battery kicked it.
my local garage replaced with an aftermarket. Two weeks ago the squeak of bad bearings arrived and *it* had to be replaced. A different mechanic (Honda specialist) said OEM parts were very hard to find, even here in Los Angeles, so they installed a better aftermarket alternator. That was a squeaker. Then they installed another: squeaker. Now I'm waiting for the delivery of a Denso alternator from Texas that's arriving on Friday. $100 more but I've got my fingers crossed.
