I would recommend a K&N cloth filter. They can be cleaned and re-oiled about every 50K miles. They never need to be replaced.
I run K&N's on my Harley and the blower on my SBC. No issues.
I replaced the air filter with a higher quality paper k&n, but thats it for anything under the hood.
a k&n air filter, it changes the car a fair bit and gives it some new life too
buy a nice K&N air filter and replace yourself.
Like all diesels, they're all about air flow, so only use the big German air filters by Mann or Mahle in it. The more air you feed it, the better it will run.
I have the K&N air filter in my Badlands. Difference is very minor.
I worked with a testing manager for Wix 10 years ago and I asked him about K&N filters. He said that they are okay brand new and their effectiveness drops after trying to clean and re-oil them. And you are assuming that the person using it is actually clean correctly and not over oiling it.
Reusable K&N filters very marginally improve performance at the cost of allowing more dust and other particles into your engine. OEM paper filters or other reputable ones like WIX do a much better job of actually cleaning the air.
The k&n gets you nothing except for letting a lot of dirt through if you don’t oil it regularly.
