Engine Info: -K&N air filter.
If you get the Mann C 36 188 /1 , it will have the foam.
If you get a Mann filter, it won't have it.
Engine: Mann Air Filter 058.133.843 Fits: Audi Allroad (01.05), A4 18 4CYL (97.05), A6 V6 (98.04), A6 V6 BT (00.08), & S4 27 V6 BT (00.08) only
Out of an independent test the K&N filter earned 2nd in the least amount of particulates, with the stock filter material containing 498 particulates vs. 501 for the K&N.
I purchased a K&N air filter and cleaning kit for $50 shipped. This alone will last the life of the vehicle.
I ordered two of the K&N filters for my V8 T-Reg (hey, anything to improve mileage). I've installed these things on my previous car before and it was pretty cake.
It's not the worst mod actually, but I got ripped off by the ppl who sold it to me (I paid nearly $90 with tax) because I didn't know how much it was worth... no gains whatsoever and that's what upset me. However, I did forget that I won't have to pay for another air filter for the rest of my life, so it's not so bad after all
The K&N out of the box messed up the MAF on my old 2.5l Jetta, but 2.5l's are notorious for having a delicate MAF with an aftermarket intake.
K&N filters let in too much dirt when they get older & after a few washes following instructions you can see right through them. Then when oiled, dust plugs them up very fast. When over oiled, the oil can destroy the MAF. All in all not worth the $60 for a panel.
