AC compressor OEM Subaru or Denso

Denso AC compressor

Looks like one of the suppliers is Denso. The safer bet is buying the Denso aftermarket version from Rockauto

Pros: safer bet

Denso AC compressor

So the Denso (Passat) will bolt right up and hoses will work fine. I only got about 1oz of oil out of the drain (fill) hole and none from the ports. There is only about 1/4" in the cup--I'd estimate less than 1oz. Book calls for around 4oz which I will put in before install.

Pros: bolts right up, hoses work

Just for the record, the original OEM is Denso and the W12 uses part number 471-1392 which also has the correct amount of oil in it already!

Pros: correct amount of oil
Vehicle: Volkswagen Phaeton
Part number: 471-1392

You have to lookup the valve online based upon your make/model of the A/C compressor. VW will only sell the whole compressor as a replacement. A full vacuum and refill process will be needed.

Pros: available online

I too just got a new one from Rockauto. Denso is the OEM manufacturer and I felt it more worth it than trying to rebuild. The 924S is blowing cold now after the r134a conversion.

Pros: blowing cold after conversion
Vehicle: Porsche

I just opened up a new Denso AC compressor. The instructions say to turn it by hand 10 times to distribute the oil before installation. It was extremely difficult to turn. It tried both directions and it was hard either way.

Cons: difficult to turn

I (attempted to) refurbish my old civic's AC system by installing a new denso compressor, condenser/drier, and the line that had leaked from rockauto. It passed an overnight vacuum test with flying colors, and to get a second set of eyes on my work (and pay back a local mechanic who helped me figure out where the leak was for free) I took it to a shop to get the freon charged. Passed the shop's vacuum test as well and they recharged the system - but the new compresser's clutch would not engage. He found that as soon as the compressor attempted to engage, it would blow the fuse. He said my new compressor's clutch or coil is defective and that diagnostics are pretty much done - replace the compressor and try again.

Cons: clutch not engaging, blows fuse
Vehicle: Honda Civic

I have a 2018 and had to get a new compressor. I have a great mechanic and he straight up tells me that Subaru a/c are just garbage. I have an ‘09 Corolla and a ‘17 F-150 work vehicle, and both of those put out ice cold a/c no issues. Even with the new a/c, coolant, and everything else, it still pretty weak.

Cons: weak performance, poor quality

With the air conditioning shutting off after driving probably gonna need to replace the compressor. Issue with almost all subarus from 2015-2017. And the hesitation when going into reverse is normal, cvts tend to be delayed.

Cons: AC shutting off, common issue
Vehicle: Subaru
