Up to this day I have not driven another vehicle with such a heavy steering - not even my 16V Scirocco with a toasted P/S pump. But the shifter action was spot on, therefore article is accurate

Pros: spot on shifter action
Cons: heavy steering
Vehicle: Volkswagen Scirocco

It's a damn tough pump. It's been about a year of just topping off now and then with a whiny pump and the leaky hose. Has yet to fail despite not bleeding the system and about half the time being run without fluid.

Pros: damn tough, hasn't failed despite abuse
Cons: whiny
Vehicle: Nissan Maxima

OEM FORD Power steering pump

Ford PS pumps are noisy bastards regardless of year, source and fitment. I have NEVER been in a Ford that didn't have a noisy pump. Not even brand new ones. They last just fine despite the noise, the one on my '85 F150 is as far as I can tell the factory original and still works beautifully, but they're all noisy noisy.

Pros: lasts long, works beautifully
Cons: noisy
Vehicle: Ford

I've got an '07 V8 Sport with 90k miles. The summary I'd give is that it'll be a good bet after it's a bit of a money pit. I've dropped about $2,500 on mine in the last year for routine maintenance. Everything is more expensive on this vehicle, but as long as you keep up on routine maintenance they are bullet proof. At 90k, you'll want to know if the power steering pump has been replaced ($1,100 for an indy Volvo specialist to do it) as it's going out or about to. A/C compressor is also known to be funky around this time period ($600 if fixed, $1,200 + if replaced). Plus these vehicles are HEAVY so the suspension components start to wear down. They also EAT tires more than any vehicle i've ever owned.

Pros: reliable with maintenance
Cons: expensive repairs
Vehicle: Volvo XC90
Mileage: 90000 km
