I did a coil on plug conversion on my race car using just stock truck coils. They fire the methanol without issue even when it's rich enough to milk the oil

Pros: fire methanol without issue, handle rich conditions

OEM Hyundai Ignition coil

I'd also pull the spark plug and check the gap. They're iridium plugs if you have a North American model, so they should be good for 100k miles, but worn spark plugs will kill ignition coils.

Pros: good for 100k miles
Cons: worn plugs kill coils
Vehicle: Subaru BRZ
Mileage: 160934 km

NGK Ignition coil

When I bought my 2008 VW Rabbit 2.5, it had 142K miles on it and I wanted to be sure I did a complete tune-up, not knowing its history. I bought the whole OEM unit which came with cover, gasket, bolts and PCV valve at a low price from Amazon. When I pulled the coils to replace the plugs, I saw that they were covered in oil from the leaking center section of the gasket, so I bought NGK coils to go with the NGK iridium plugs. When I pulled the plugs, I saw the tops were also covered in oil but the working end of the plugs were fine (Bosch plugs and the original coils). Replacing everything was easy and I torqued everything correctly. No more leaks and the car performs wonderfully on 87 octane.

Pros: car performs wonderfully
Cons: coils covered in oil
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 153000 km

APR Ignition coil

I have 75K on my CC Sport with APR Stage1+ Tune. I recently changed my plugs and put APR coils in not sure if got any real power but the car feels so much better. At $27 a coil why not use APR?

Pros: car feels so much better
Cons: not sure if got power
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 75000 km

I purchased the MSD coil upgrade kit, swapped out the coil pack, new spark plugs / wires, fresh oil / filter. Fired her up and she purred like a kitten.

Pros: purred like a kitten

I ran a Blaster 2 on my old car for a bit. Idle was a little smoother, but it was probably because the coil on it was crap. No real performance gains expected.

Pros: smoother idle
Cons: no performance gains

OEM Volkswagen Ignition coil

VW makes bad ignition coils, period. Bad design, bad reliability, bad everything. They actually came out in pieces and were siezed into the head on some cylinders. There was several inches of calcification and junk from water going down into the holes (no engine cover for 123,000 miles). I had to blow out the plug holes with air compressor, after I vacuumed the inches of calcium dust out, then still after I removed the plugs found rust under the crush washer they seat on. It wasn't fun and I had to polish the holes up to hopefully stop that disgusting build up. It was BAAAAAD looking but it ran fine with only a single misfire up to almost 130k.

Pros: ran fine with single misfire
Cons: bad design, bad reliability, came out in pieces, seized into the head
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 209214 km
