I had an '88 Si 4WS... Loved the car. It still runs well; the current owner has just over 300k mi on it. Aside from cv joints, a throttle body, a couple timing belts, and an alternator, the car hasn't needed anything major.

Many of us Beetle people use the Porsche units for Heavy-duty applications, and they fit.
