I have been using Rain-X since 1986 and have recommended it as if I owned the damn company ever since. Recently though I just started polishing the glass and then waxing it like the rest of the car. It's cheaper, lasts MUCH longer and works just as well.

I use RainX on my windshields, and replace the wipers at the first sign of streaking.
when i bought my b5.5 last summer is still had the factory wipers. which blew a$$. i bought a pair of the RAIN-X like all season thick ones. crap i forget the name of em. i think like latitude or something idk. but those are siiiic and sitll like new over a year later.
I have the Rain-x Latitude wipers on my car, and they work perfectly...no troubles installing whatsoever.
I've been using Rain-X Pink/Orange fluid almost exclusivley since the factory fill ran dry. We've been below 20F this entire week and not a problem with the fluid freezing.
might as well get rid of the VW washer fluid. It contains the Rain-X stuff also. I personally always have good experience with Rain-X.
Rain X works fine if you clean the windshield good before applying it. If the glass is properly treated, wipers are not needed...they actually shorten the Rain X treatment period from ~3 months to about 40 days. Leave those damn wipers off!
You want to use Windex or so to remove. RainX does that. It doesn't like wiperblades. I had it done in a few cars and it hop or skip (chatter) when it's in use. So I stop using it.
RainX actually degrades your wiper blade. I used it on my x-Jetta and my blades went and started to chatter.
Made the mistake of putting it on my windshield..... now everytime the wipers go, the god damn crap makes streaks alll over the windshield which makes things super -unvisable.
