It's a known problem with knocking brakes on the off rear of B6 passats. To fix, remove the caliper, pull out the top and bottom did pins and half fill with a heavy grease or copper grease into the holes the slide pins slide on, refit and no more noise! Just did mine last week.

My wagon gradually stopped smoking. But it took about 2 months of adding engine detergents to the oil and gas. Finally, I did a Kleen-Flo Engine Flush then changed my oil, and so far everything works for now.
I have used Bosch rotors that have zinc coating and they don't rust as bad as normal rotors.
While I had the coils out, I replaced the plugs (used ACDelco double platinum professional grade, proper gap. No NGKs were available). After I replaced the coils, the misfire code(s) went away for a few days.
All I know is my dealer used 5W30 Castrol throughout my free factory serviceand I burned oil like crazy, since I have switched to Motul VW specific 5W-40 I have yet to burn anything noticeable.
I have the valeo smf kit and vr6 clutch on my 1.8t (different flywheel but same idea) They work fine, you just get a little more drivetrain noise and rattle at idle but no big deal. You might loose a little hwy mpg (.5-1.0) but no biggie
FTE brand Passat rear disc brake hoses (cost about $15 each) and include the banjo bolt, and washer that are necessary.
If you get a Mann filter, it won't have it.
I had NGK PFR6Q and it ran fine. But... now I use the stock NGK plugs
They came out to $25 each at the dealership. I'm not impressed with them either. They are much stiffer than the Bosch Icons are. I have Icons on the BMW & they are still more supple after almost a year compared to the new VW blades.
