Noticed coolant was low and could smell it sometimes. Dealership pressure tested system and found coolant leak at thermostat housing. Thermostat replaced under warranty. Its probably been leaking slowly for a year or more.

I bought Nokian Hakkapelitta R3s for my MKVI Golf R before last season. These replaced Nokian WRG3s. The R3s were a noticeable step up in grip in snowy conditions last winter on the Matterhorn 225/45/R17

I had a set of Nexen Winguard Sport 2 on my Golf R and had no issues with them in Vancouver, BC winter.

312 upgrade. Stoptech slotted rotors and EBC Redstuff pads.

So for approximately $300 I got much better components. Which are MUCH better than stock and improved feel and effectiveness. ECS Tuning cross drilled and slotted rotors(288mm) EBC Red Stuff

I also did the upgrade (after thoroughly reading the golfdave thread), as I hated how grabby and sticky the stock brakes were. For me, it was totally worth it. The larger front rotors have made the brakes way more linear and easy to modulate. The extra thermal capacity is just a bonus.

I upgraded to the 312 and am happy with the change, it is less grabby.

I upgraded. Made brakes way less twitchy and much more progressive with substantially less brake fade. I highly recommend it.

I was very very happy with the Hawks setup... but I did run into some fade in aggressive downhill run, which could have been the pads or the fluid.

Since I installed the StopTech slotted brake rotors on my 2013 Golf R last winter, every time I've driven in the rain, after cruising long enough such that the brakes get "cold," as soon as I mash on the brake pedal, there is no stopping power whatsoever. Once the brakes "heat up" the response and stopping power are as what I'd expect. On a dry day, this does not happen at all - the brakes are firm and the stopping response is exactly what I'd expect.
