RED LINE Engine oil

I run Redline 5w-40. I do not use the 'Euro' formula version, but the regular 5w-40 meets the VAG oil specs for a (2012) TT-RS. I used to run Mobile 1 0w-40, but I believe that Redline, Amsoil, Motul, and a few others are a higher quality oil (ex: Ester base stocks for Redline and Motul 300v).

Pros: meets VAG specs, higher quality

GiroDisc Brake discs
pal
  • Braking:
Rating 5.0

The limiting factor was tire grip Oregon Raceway Park (ORP), clockwise one day and counter clockwise the next, is hard on the brakes, tires and suspension with the hardest braking zones being downhill and the brakes did not complain both days. GiroDisc is definitely doing its thing and the HPA rear BBK is doing its part.

Pros: brakes did not complain

GiroDisc Brake discs
pal
  • Braking:
Rating 5.0

I am happy to report that I experienced no fade and the brakes were consistent and solid the entire time. I believe the GiroDisc rotors are doing a fine job at evacuating heat and in combination with the HPA rear BBK, the car stopped strong and flat. I am a happy camper.

Pros: no fade, consistent brakes

MOTUL Brake fluid
trichards69
  • Pedal feel:
Rating 4.0

Upgraded brake lines. the stock lines are not up to the task of repeated hard braking temps. Your brake fluid should be something along the lines of Motul 600 or the like.

Pros: better braking temps
Cons: stock lines inadequate

GiroDisc Brake discs
EZ
  • Braking:
Rating 5.0

End of the day, and these are the best performing brakes I've ever had equipped on the car. They felt exactly the same on the last hot lap as they did on the first. I also ran titanium backing plates, and had zero fade issues all day. If they hold up over time, I highly recommend these over the OEM rotors if you track your car.

Pros: best performing brakes, zero fade

GiroDisc Brake discs
EZ
  • Braking:
  • Vibration:
Rating 3.5

Update for all those following along. My brakes were the best they've ever been today - on a very, very hot day (feels-like temp over 100). I had a vibration with light brake pressure, but pressed on giving more pressure and found that as the brakes got more heat in them, and I went deeper into the braking zone, the vibration disappeared. All was well, but after checking the rotors, they appear to have developed cracks.

Pros: best brakes ever
Cons: developed cracks, vibration

Raybestos Brake pads
EZ
  • Braking:
Rating 2.0

So I mentioned to Mike at GiroDisc (who is great btw) that I was in the market for pads, and he recommended Raybestos ST43s, which get great reviews. So I went with them, but two events ago they put deposits on the rotors so bad the car shook like mad after a few laps. I still had the HT-10s with me, so I swapped them, they wiped the deposits off and I was back in business for the day.

Pros: great reviews
Cons: horrible deposits
