Windshield OEM Subaru or Pilkington

Pilkington Windshield

I had mine replaced with non-OEM (Pilkington glass) and didn't have any recalibration done. No issues for the past 6 months and no issues with ACC, LKA, or FCA.

Pros: no issues with ACC, LKA, FCA

I have a ND RF club and when i cracked the factory glass, the glass company installed a Pilkington windshield. My butt dyno thinks the Pilkington windshield is better than the factory glass. Lasted a lot longer despite me now daily driving....

Pros: better than factory, lasted longer

The Mazda 3 I purchased 6 months ago part of the purchase was replacement of the windshield. They installed a Pilkington; it has the HUD logo and no issues. Yes you need to have the camera calibrated as part of the deal.

Pros: HUD logo present, no issues
Vehicle: Mazda 3

Just got a rock chip on my 2025 Ascent with only 2400 miles. We weren't anywhere close to the car in front of us so we don't even understand how it happened. On the edge of the black area around all the camera stuff. Heading to get it repaired now so it hopefully doesn't spread. Wish us luck.

Cons: rock chip, happened unexpectedly
Vehicle: Subaru
Mileage: 2400 km

Just had OEM Pilkington glass installed on our Honda and it has a mean wave towards the far right edge of the glass. Luckily it’s there and not in the middle.

Cons: mean wave, defective
Vehicle: Honda

We have had to replace our 2017 legacy 2 times and the first time they used a 3rd party windshield and it would not calibrate. They had me call SoA and I was told that they have to use OEM windshields.

Pros: OEM windshield calibrated
Cons: 3rd party not calibrate
Vehicle: Subaru Legacy

I had a Pilkington windshield put on my 2008 Malibu to replace the OEM. It chipped extremely easy compared to the OEM. Even the tiniest little pebbles caused big chips in the glass. I replaced the OEM glass in 2021 due to a tree limb falling on it and shattering it. The Pilkington windshield now has several cracks along the entire windshield. Also took Safelite 4 attempts to find a windshield that wasn't wavy or scratched.

Cons: chipped extremely easy
Vehicle: Chevrolet Malibu

Wife has a crack in her 2025 Forester before her first payment. It has continued to grow and she is on the waiting list for a windshield. Several hundred ahead of her. Something is amiss with the glass

Cons: crack grew, long wait
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
