I had my ND windshield replaced back in 2019 and they brought a genuine Mazda replacement. Not sure why, as the installer said it was unusual to use OEM. It is an involved process due to all the sensor reconfiguration required. I am not aware of an improved windshield replacement, but FWIW my replacement has been fine since 2019.
Best $250 I ever spent on my NA Miata bought in Nevada was a new windshield; makes the convertible experience so much better. Otherwise you can see perfectly in every direction except the one you’re headed toward! Highly recommend.
Example: windshields have to be lighter, so they are thinner. Any little rock will destroy one of our Mazdas windshield.
I finally went aftermarket for the battery and windshield replacement that last time and they did seem like upgrades. If you're having issues, don't go back to OEM replacements given that they're garbage.
The windshield cracked on its own on mine. No impact just cracked...
Owned my 2025 Outback for 6 months. 9K miles. 3 chips already repaired by safelite
I’m going to need a new windshield soon, that will be my 4th one.
I had a scratch on the windshield a few weeks in, then realized I’d have the same issue as I did in my previous Mazda: poor glass quality that scratches even with the windshield wipers.
We have had to replace our 2017 legacy 2 times and the first time they used a 3rd party windshield and it would not calibrate. They had me call SoA and I was told that they have to use OEM windshields.
Mazda windshields are extremely soft, they scratch and crack easily.
