decided to go with “aftermarket” which was a Pilkington windshield. Have had zero issues with my lane assist/collision sensors, However I assume it really depends who does your replacement install and if they calibrate the sensors properly
I have a few Corrado windshields I’m looking to unload. I imported them from Europe, they are Pilkington and I have them listed at $750US or $1000CAN.
for Hondas and Acuras that need recalibration with the ADAS camera systems, It’s best to use PILKINGTON. It seems to have a lower Failure rate.
There are differences, as you found, in the manufacturer, but VW uses different glass manufacturers in different parts of the world. I, myself, have the roof, front & rear windshield made by Pilkington, and the side windows are from Saint Gobain.
If you go with aftermarket at a place like Safelite, make sure to get the Pilkington brand if you have a HUD
I've found that its more common with Pilkington than any other brand, but as another said, defects and delamination can happen with OEM parts as well.
'22 and on my third windshield. One was covered by Subaru and one had to pay insurance deductible. I had both Carlex and Pilkington glass and both cracked
Safelight used a cheap crap grade of pilkington - they said it was OEM, it was not and cracked the first week from a small rock.
Same with our 2021 Honda Accord. Our accord we babied and had the windshield repaired 4 times and it was only ever driven on pavement. The windshield cracks when dirt hits it.
Back in 2014, I had just gotten my New Honda City VX variant, petrol.\nCracked my windshield a total of 5 times over a period of 3-4 years.
