Replaced my cracked windshield. I have Amica insurance with full grace replacement coverage. Simply went to Safelite and explained that I want genuine bmw OE glass. No problem. Just took about a week longer at the time vs generic to get the part in.

Pros: genuine OE glass
Cons: longer wait time

Called one and they worked it to get an OEM windshield through my BMW dealer and installed themselves. HUD, collision and rain sense all working as before. No issues.

Pros: HUD, collision, rain sense working; no issues

I've driven VWs for a long time now and I've always thought their glass was more susceptible to chips than other brands I've owned. Stone chips/cracks are pretty easy to get in VW glass.

Cons: susceptible to chips

I went through 2 windshield in a couple of weeks. First one was because a motorcycle rider in the fast lane kicked up a rock and it hit my windshield in the lower left corner by the vin. I was in the other lane. Fluke accident. it started as a small chip but over the next 30min the crack moved across the windshield. Never seen that before. I got it replaced at the dealer 3800.00 later. A few weeks later I hear a huge bang like something hit my car and a huge crack is now across my windshield. I was not tailing anyone. I think the windshield might have been installed incorrectly or was defective and cracked from some stress. Another 3800.00 and this one seems fine so far.

Pros: current one seems fine
Cons: cracked easily, defective, stress cracks

I think the glass is just really soft. The windshield on my F82 was completely sandblasted when I bought it. I ended up replacing it with OEM BMW glass and now keep a much wider distance between me and the vehicles in front lol.

Cons: glass soft, sandblasted easily

2023 X7 3 months old two windshields replaced. At this rate I think I'll need a subscription based windshield service. I've been driving for over 30 years, had Ford, Mercedes, Toyota, Doge, and other cars. Not a single chip or crack ever. With the beemer - got hit by a rock twice, each time big chips and immediate crack. And the rocks that hit my windshield weren't even that big (judging by the sound of it I want to say in other cars I've gotten peppered by bigger rocks). And to add insult to injury, I kept extra distance from the car in front of me today (new habit since the last -my first ever- crack), just so some douchebag could cut in front of me to kick up that £#*&¥% rock that cracked my windshield ????

Cons: chips easily, cracks easily, poor durability
Vehicle: BMW X7

Just have a couple rock chips now in my windshield, one is quite bad. Luckily, they haven’t cracked yet but I did have to replace my windshield earlier this year.

Pros: chips not cracked
