Tires Toyo or GT Radial
I got some Toyo Extensa HP II’s for the summer/fall/spring from the former, delivered to my doorstep. I then got the Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 at Costco and got them installed at location. I’m pretty happy with both tires.
What tires do you have? Factory All Terrain tires (and all AT tires) make more noise. The factory AT tires have been known to drone more when the mileage is higher. Rotating your tires can help for a while.
Bought Toyo Celsius 2 and they are amazing. Quiet, handles well on snow and 60,000 miles.
The best dedicated High-Performance Snows I ever had were Toyo Observe Garit KX in 225-50-17 on my old MK VI R. The colder it got, the better they gripped.
I just order TOYO tires then pay a shop to install and balance. I rotate myself and save the extra money aside for any damage/repairs I might need later. it's financially worked out to my gain over the last decade and several sets of all season and winter specific tires.
If you want ATs because of looks, there is already a proven option: Toyo Open Country ATIII EV.
I like the Toyo T1R , but damn it's an oooold design now...toyo really need to update it.
I went through first winter in Toronto with the stock Toyos since I got the car right before winter and it handled snow like a piece of cake and I didn’t feel like I would ever get stuck. You’d have to replace them early anyway, they don’t last much.
I had the Toyos and drove 21k with the PHEV before they were down to 4-5/32". It is really important to check the tire depth every 2-3k and rotate as appropriate as they definitely wear quick when starting out.
Anyways, I mounted the tires in my wheels and right away on the tire balancer two they wobbled bad. I balanced them but they’re shit tires. The vibrate, have a very “hollow” pop type noise when hitting bumps, and overall a bit squirrelly on the road.
