I dont care about road noise so i stick to Vitour Tempesta Enzo semi slicks, insane cornering stabilty, dry grip is phenomenal as well as steering response.
Go for the Vitour P1. Just out a set on my MR2 this weekend. Wow so much grip
I'm running them on my C7Z (315/345s on 18s). Only one event on them so far (next one is tomorrow) and can confirm they are stupid fast. I was running Conti ECFs previously and about 70% of my first event on the P1s was trying to find the limit and learn the tire.
I had sumitomo ASPO3 on my Honda Accord and they were honestly really good tires The asymmetrical tread pattern did very well in the wet and light to moderate snow, I would purchase them again.
Falken’s parent company sumitomo makes the encounter AT with similar performance for much cheaper, it’s what I’m running currently and they’re great
My car came with Sumitomo HTR A/S P03 with about 19k on them. I bought it after a blizzard and was pleasantly surprised at how capable the tires are. We've subsequently had torrential rain and they grip great in the wet too.
The downside is that they're quite noisy.
I went from Sumitomo HTR Z2 tires to Michelin Pilot Super Sport and was left very disappointed in the Michelins. Initial turn in suffered (slight delay from steering input to vehicle changing direction). The Michelins are like sticky gummy bears, the Sumitomos had much stiffer side walls and that made driving far more enjoyable even though they were less sticky.
I went with Solar 4XS+ available from Walmart. They are manufactured by Sumitomo tires. These came in really cheap at $350 for all 4 tires including lifetime balance and rotation and road hazard warranty at Walmart. These are 89 H rated, so a bit soft which cut down the road noise a lot compared to my previous Bridgestone Ecopia. Efficiency is the same as the Ecopias at 4.3 mi/kwh but they ride smooth and quiet.
I almost totalled my RX-8 when my HTRZIII's were not even that bad. Don't get me wrong, they're okay for the price (actually a great drifting tire), but I can't but help think you get what you pay for in terms of how quickly they wear, and especially how bad traction is when they get near the end.
I've had the sumitomos before. they were ok, quieter but not very grippy. They looked awesome though. They also sucked when it was cold ( turned into bricks and thumped until they warmed up )
