I just did the same switch about 2 weeks ago now. I agree with wet performance, they are fantastic. My two biggest differences I've noticed are the Gmax have a tendency to feel a bit floaty on very specific pavement patterns at highway speed.
I got my RX-7 a set of General Altimax RT43. For the past few thousand miles, no complaints.
I had pilot sports and switched to the gmax after having blow out after blow out no issue since making the switch. the general tires imo are far sturdier and have way better wet weather performance.
I have changed my tires from Michelin Pilot Sport 3's to General G Max AS-05.
I recently took my car on an aggressive mountain pass in 70 degree weather and here's my findings.
1)Driving at 80-90mph on straight highway cruising the General G Max create more wind noise than the Pilot Sports.
Way better than BFG KO2.
I have the 32 inch E rated version on my F150. They have been fantastic so far, 1.5 years in. I live in SW Montana, so we get snow and ice. They work great for an all terrain.
I've had the General Altima tires for a few years. They have done me well
General as05 is pretty good for an all season
General GMax RS. Cheap and grippy, not too noisy and they do well in the rain.
I had a problem where the Generals were 20 dollars a tire more than the Firehawks. I probably gave up some wet traction for higher overall performance in the dry, but it's good to see that the G-Max isn't a bad option, either.
