I ran the Xice3 in some pretty severe snow this past winter. One day in particular was a big snowstorm... I took every gnarly/hilly minor road I could find... and got home with no drama and some quality hooning. Those tires are magic.
I had XIce's on my S4 and loved them, for sure getting them on my R Smooth on plowed roads, but turned the S4 into a tank when it snowed.
I got my Michelin X-Ice Xi3 winter tires today as well as the rebate card.
I had the Pilot Alpines on my Z4M Coupe last winter. Loved them for below freezing dry conditions, and I was driving past stuck subarus in snowy conditions as well.
Michelin xice3 are surprisingly quiet and grippy on the dry.
This is why modern winter tires like the Michelin X-Ice that have rather "docile" tread patterns still do amazingly well on ice and snow, and that is a compound that is still useful in the cold.
I once had about 4mm (barely anything) of tread left on some Michelin xice. I switched to a set of brand new all seasons... The traction on snow and ice that I had with the 4mm was so much greater than AS tires.
For all seasons, get Michelin pilot a/s 3+. Way better than the Conti extremecontacts I had before. Probably not quite as good in the snow but who cares. So smooth, relatively quiet, and great grip for an all season.
Just put a set of these on my Jetta GLI, ride quality is excellent, turn in is superb, they are communicative, work great I’m dry rain AND snow.
Here is my setup i was running 195/40/16 federal on my 8J's but was rubbing Too.... so i put them on my 9J's and bought NSII 165/40/16 Here is what they look like
