Tires KENDA or PHANTOM

KENDA Tires

The best tire I have found for this setup is the Kenda K161 Knobby Cross 27x1-3/8 Gum Wall Tire. I have a set on a city bike of similar vintage and geometry and they're really quite good.

Pros: really quite good

KENDA Tires

I would recommend swapping the tires out and setting it up tubeless when you get around to it. It came with Torreno dry 38s and I put on Kenda Crusher 45/40s and it is much faster and capable on dirt and road.

Pros: faster, capable on dirt

KENDA Tires

Kenda Nevegal and Kenda Kobra are the two tires I know of that are full all-terrain tires in the 24” wheelchair wheel size.

Pros: full all-terrain tires

PHANTOM Tires

Some tires are made in China and some possibly(?) better ones are made Vietnam, while made in Korea tires usually aren't bad, but may not last as long as expensive tires. For safety, I wouldn't go too cheap on tires. Many cheap tires have rather poor traction when new and become unsafe with only a few miles of wear on them. The Chinese tires often are made of very hard rubber, which might wear well, but has poor traction. There may be some in between tires made in the Philippines, but I'd avoid them. Kumho is a Korean tire company with majority Chinese ownership by a Chinese tire company. They make Phantom tires, likely in China, but even in Korea, they would be the low end. Hankook tires are "better" Korean tires. Not the best, but seem safer. I'd check tire reviews on the Internet.

Pros: may wear well (hard rubber)
Cons: poor traction, not safe, avoid cheap

KENDA Tires

I had a set of kenda tires. They look aggressive but are the most slippery tire on the road. I wouldn't buy them again.

Pros: aggressive look
Cons: slippery on road

I just put one of those tires on the front of my K1600 & it doesn't like speeds over 70 mph. It handles good at low speeds & in the rain, but I don't like it at all on the highway. Feels like rain grooves on any surface.

Pros: good at low speeds, good in rain
Cons: unstable at high speeds
