I use 165/80 r15 hankook summer tires and they are excellent, both wet and dry grip.
Back to the actual tires, so far my completely subjective take is that they are indeed quieter and smoother than the factory Bridgestone Alenzas.
I’m in Maine and my studded Hanook snow tires make my hybrid unstoppable.
Yo uso hankook, tengo un año y medio con ellas y estan a 3/4 de vida, ademas de que tienen buen agarre en curvas y lluvia, y no son tan caras como continental, estas también salen muy buenas, pero el precio es más elevado.
Hankook RS4s have my recommendation if you're not going to compete in sanctioned time attacks where prizes are on the line. I value tire longevity rather than saving one or two seconds per lap with a theoretical perfect racing line(not something that's bound to happen often).
If anyone wants good cheap tires, go with something reputable. I and lot of guys in my local Miata club run hankook ventus v2s. Can be had for 60-70$ per tire, and grip is very good for the price. They do wear pretty fast with hard driving but great value.
I’m a fan of hankook dynapro. Quiet on the highway, but has enough tread to function in the mud.
Nexen, riken (made by Michelins), Hankook are all budget friendly made by good brands.
My 2017 Beetle S came with the tires specified immediately below...Hankook Kinergy GT...Originally, tire wear appeared to be proceeding well...After the 16,000 mile service...I noticed the centers of two tires...to have lost the siping \u2013 classic over-inflation indicator...Recently at 19,000 miles I noted the front tires...had lost the center siping \u2013 again signifying over-inflation...I am not particularly surprised at the center wear as I think a load index of 95 is fairly high for this vehicle...I cannot imagine 60,000 miles for these tires.
I have the Ventus V12s on my SLK in the Bay Area too. Very similar tire. They absolutely suck at displacing water. I can legit lose the back end in heavy rain at medium speeds. The grip and launch in the summer is great, but they are simply not designed for water displacement.
