FWIW, I had 225/45R17 Nokian Hakkas on my 2001 TT Roadster, and I had absolutely no problems on hard-packed snow or loose, slushy wet snow. I distinctly remember leaving a big, jacked-up Jeep with all-terrain tires in my wake at a stop light in about 8 inches of unplowed snow!

Pros: no problems on snow
Vehicle: Audi TT

I tried both Golf GTI with 195/65-15 and the R32 with 225/40-18 last winter, and the R32 was much better to drive even if the tyres are wider. I have 225/45-17 today (winter tyres, without spikes of course!) and they are awesome. Quite, nice handling

Pros: nice handling, quite

I weighed my MCS 17"s on a bathroom scale - 49 lb. That's with the 205/45-17 Badyear RS-A's. My 215/45-16 and 16x6.5" Enkei RPO1/Falken Azenis weighed 37 lb. on the same scale. 12 lb per corner is a HUGE amount, and is extremely noticeable while driving.

Pros: noticeable while driving
Cons: heavy per corner
Vehicle: MINI

I had some Hakka's on my 85 Vanagon, all four wheels, they were very good. Felt better in most cases on snow than the summer Dunlops did on dry pavement.

Pros: very good on snow
Vehicle: Volkswagen

When I bought my 85 Vanagon used, it needed new tires, I went with some Dunlops that I wasn't very impressed with. Plus they were summer only. In 2000 I bought some Nokian snow tires that I was very impressed with. If I held on to the van I would have probably tried one of their summer or all season tires.

Pros: very impressed
Vehicle: Volkswagen

We have been running the Hakka 1's now for a few days and all I have to say about them is they are the best studded winter tire we have used to date. They drive awesome in dry weather and I notice they stick to the road in turns even with studs.

Pros: drive awesome in dry weather, stick to the road

Had my first snow experience with the WRs on my way yo work today. Obviously not the grip of a studded tire, but I think they perform just as good as the Blizzaks.

Pros: perform just as good
Cons: not the grip

I've driven 3 winters with Nokian Q:s. 2.5 with 185/65-14 and 1/2 winter with 195/55-15 and with 15" Q:s handling was much better but grip was same as the 14".

Pros: handling was much better
Cons: grip was same

My car handles great in the snow with the stock 17" Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. The biggest problem is it gets so damn dirty

Pros: handles great in snow
Cons: gets so damn dirty

Those tires suck a$$. Years back I bought a Supra Turbo with them as OEM tires. It wasn't hard to break the tires loose with some hard acceleration in the dry, in the wet I'd make a quick shift to 2nd and then 3rd to keep the car from squirming all over the road under moderate throttle. Of course it didn't take long to wear them out.

Cons: easy to break loose, wore out quickly
