Tires Continental or Nokia

Continental Tires

The DWS' are awesome in the wet. But we had nearly no snow last winter so I can't tell you much about that, but I have high hopes.

Pros: awesome in the wet

Switched out my OEM Conti’s for the DWS 06’s last winter for ski season (So Cal). I have my OEM’s back on for now but once they are worn out I will put the DWS’s back on and never look back.

Pros: more comfortable ride

Absolutely great tires. I’ve used them year-round on other vehicles, and they are the best all-around performers I’ve encountered.

Pros: best all-around performers

I have run the Conti DWS as my tire of choice on my previous Mk. 6 GTI and current 2016 R. I owned the GTI in Eugene, OR where we had a LOT of wet weather and snow was readily available close by or driving south to visit California.

Pros: all around safety
Cons: bit on the pricey side

This will be my third season with the DWS 06 on 18¨ Enkei Racing PF01 wheels on my 2015 R, same as my Michelin 18¨ PSS's are mounted on for summer use. As has been noted here by others these tires have performed extremely well, although not exposed to some of our extreme amounts of snow we've had recently.

Pros: performed extremely well

I have had the Contis and the Michelins (on 18s). Both are great. Contis were way better in the wet in my opinion. The softer sidewalls also delivered a smoother ride, but gave a bit in performance (push/under steer).

Pros: smoother ride, better in wet
Cons: performance give, under steer
Mileage: 35000 km

I have the R2 and actually just had to use them while my Prets were in the shop.

As far as driving on dry pavement goes, the R2s are great--very quiet, good economy (I lost maybe 1mpg?). Main drawback is that they are very soft and race mode with R2s feels like comfort mode with stock all-seasons.

Pros: very quiet, good economy
Cons: soft, comfort mode feeling

My suggestion is that the R2 is the best when it comes to not becoming really noisy after a few years (the Nordmans on my Jetta are pretty noisy). I have R2's on the Alltrack and had them on the Eurovan (it now has the Rotiiva AT's on it and those thing are the best Nokians I've ever had for all year use). So, skiing up in VT and driving through big snowstorms and ice, the R2 works just fine.

Pros: works fine in snowstorms
Cons: Nordmans are pretty noisy
Vehicle: Volkswagen
