I have the standard twin tube nitrogen shocks with their UCA's and I love them. A little harsh when the truck is empty, but it rides like a Cadillac with 4 people and a couple hundred pounds of suitcases

Pros: rides like a Cadillac
Cons: harsh when empty
Vehicle: Lexus GX

Rancho RS5000X shocks are a great affordable replacement that ride well, just paint the shock bodies to make them last longer and remove the sleeve they put over the shaft.

Pros: affordable, ride well
Cons: paint to last longer

I just slapped the full dobinsons nitro 2" lift on my 2006 sport with their confort/stock feel springs. Was about $1600 which included the rear coil conversion kit. Installed it myself on a saturday, then got it aligned at a shop. I previously had 5100 struts when I was sock height with the airbags for about a year, and the dobs shocks are noticeably better.

Pros: noticeably better shocks
Vehicle: Lexus GX

Ride quality isn’t noticeably different. Bilstein or Fox are great upgrades for the stock rancho badged shocks either way.

Pros: great upgrades
Cons: not noticeably different

I got some Ranchos on my 88 which have been great so far. Had them about 2 years, but I don’t go off-road, or at least hardcore anyway. They’re nice and firm

Pros: nice and firm

Man I don’t know how Rancho started being marketed as a desirable shock. They used to be cheap autozone replacement stuff. I had a ZR-2 Blazer years ago that came with factory Bilsteins, when they were worn out and shot I replaced them with Ranchos… I should have just left the blown Bilsteins on lol.

Cons: cheap autozone replacement
Vehicle: Chevrolet Blazer
