Subarus are easy to work on for all the basics you’ll be doing, my only gripe on mine (08 Impreza) is the oil filter is in between the headers but I can live with that.
Subaru 15208aa170 oil filters and mobil1 5w30 EP oil. 6000 mile oci backed up by oil analysis.
I had the same code popping up onky after redlining. I had 2 months prior, replaced the oil filter housing on my atlas 21' 2.0t and vw passat 15' 1.8t with the metal one... off brand from amazon but works well on the atlas, so no issues, EPC would be nonstop until i turned off the car and back on. Switched the housing back to stock with a new filter and BOOM. Problem literally solved.
Only ever use Subaru OEM oil filter on mine and penzoil platinum full synthetic
I have 234k miles on my 2016 Outback and I usually use Napa or O’Reilly house brand oil and either a Subaru or WIX filter.
just use pennzoil platinum or valvoline advanced 0w-20 from walmart and an STP 10992XL filter from autozone.
Also get a good Putolator or Subaru brand oil filter that is rated for the higher Subaru oil pressure so that it is filtering more often and not blowing open the internal filter bypass because Clean oil will make the engine last longer.
I swapped in a new Subaru OEM oil filter on my 2016 MT. After a short 1.5 miles drive, thin smoke escaped from beneath the hood, and a pool of oil gathered. Oil was literally burbling up from beneath the oil filter and spilling out. I immediately turned off the engine. I will not be using anymore of the junk OEM oil filters.
The oil on my wife’s crosstrek leaked and had to get it replaced. Guess there’s a known issue with them
My son went to a local shop who used STP/Fram/K&N and collapsed the material inside the housing, and the motor gave him fits and lights.
