Oil filter Fram or Hengst

Fram Oil filter

I use Fram 9/10 times I do an oil change, never had an issue. I have heard more than once that some Fram filters have internal rust from the factory, but I’ve never cut one open to verify this

Pros: never had an issue
Cons: internal rust

Fram Oil filter

Fram filters have a lower micron count than other brands, thus why people say they are bad. I would not use them on high performance stuff, but on econoboxes i would. been using exclusively fram on my 2006 corolla since it was brand new and it has 250k miles and still going strong, however on my mustang i only use motorcraft.

Pros: 250k miles, still strong
Cons: lower micron count
Mileage: 250000 km

Fram Oil filter

Had an 05 Civic and put 100k miles on it. Used full synthetic + Fram filters every 10k miles. Opened the engine for a timing belt and it was squeaky clean, not even varnished.

I also recently saw one YT channel test Fram and it did really well. It was somewhat restrictive, but it held a lot of dust and did a good job at filtering.

Pros: squeaky clean engine
Cons: somewhat restrictive
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 100000 km

Ok... so as a DIY mechanic, how tight am I SUPPOSED to tighten oil filters? The box says 1 turn after gasket contact, so that's what I do. It gets pretty tight by the end of a full turn, but I'm still able to do it with my hand (so long as it has one of those rubber grip coated bottoms, like the Fram Tough-Guard). I never have to use a wrench to get it to that point, but it takes about all my hand grip strength to do so. Taking them off is usually requiring a strap wrench, and sometimes it dents/crushes the casing.

Cons: hard to remove, dents casing

FRAM filters are pretty dookie. They are known for coming apart and clogging oil systems. My RAM had FRAM filters for its 180k miles and its got little pieces of shit in the oil every time i check or change it.

I wouldnt bother with them.

Cons: coming apart, clogging
Mileage: 180000 km

Fram Oil filter

I had weird oil pressure issues with them, the chevy LT engines have a weird oil system so you have to use the GM filters. customer lost a engine to the mis match filters.

Cons: oil pressure issues
Vehicle: Chevrolet

Fram Oil filter

I just want a metal body for the spin-on filters in case they’re put on too tight. I’m not a mechanic, but have tore the shit out of a Fram oil filter trying to remove it. The Mobile 1 filters work well on my Camry.

Cons: hard to remove

If you have a vw definitely do not use Fram. That shit shrivels up and disintegrates restricting oil flow and given most vw engines use oil pressure to tension the timing belt or chains I've replaced a lot of enigines because of them

Cons: shrivels, disintegrates, restricts flow
Vehicle: Volkswagen
