I purchased the MSD coil upgrade kit, swapped out the coil pack, new spark plugs / wires, fresh oil / filter. Fired her up and she purred like a kitten.
You can also spring for the MSD coil, about twice as much but the boots are attached better I think, where the OEM part might have the boots rip off or the springs get caught up.
I replaced the coil with a MSD high performance which was actually cheaper than any other brand, and had significantly better boots on it to keep the water problem from happening again. Haven’t had an issue in 2 years.
I got MSD Street Fire coils to replace mine and its been 4 months so far and they're running strong.
I have used the blaster w a stock icm (the inductive version) and also with a 6al (cdi version). Both worked well over for 400whp with a stock dizzy.
So I replaced the coils with MSD packs, and tossed in fresh plugs, even though the old ones were less than 10k miles in. This seemed to fix the issue for a while, but it ended up coming back.
I started having some minor issues at about 45,000 miles (solved by changing the coils), and other people have had similar experience... So I change them that often.
The F revision was current as of April 2015 when I replaced all of the factory coil packs that were installed in my 07 2.5 Jetta. I had one go bad and decided to just replace all of them and the plugs while I had it all opened up.
I have used the MSD ones before but they will fail much faster.
I never use aftermarket coils, nor would I. I have taken out too many bad ones. In fact, a friend put a set of some parts store coils in his daughter's Tiguan, and two weeks later one died.
