using a heavier oil weight has been an old trick to help with oil consumption in Subarus for a long time now. I used to use Rotella 5w40 (before the reformulation) in my old 04 Baja Turbo and that particular oil was the best to keep the oil burning down.
I buy 5 OE Toyota filters at a time from Amazon ( approximately $6 ea ) Purchase Ow-20 Idemitsu oil from NAPA ( ships free to my home ) in the cost saving 6gal box ( 24 qts ) for about $125 with their online coupon. Use this in both my Avalon and my Tundra- both run like a dream.
My regular since i think 2014 or so has been helix ultra 5w40 running in all my vehicles currently.
I run 0w30 in my F82 M4 as that's what BMW and Shell recommend.
shell long ride sulit for honda click
I am using 15W40 Shell Oil for the last 8 years. No issues. 160k Kms on the Odometer
I have always used shell 10w-40 and did regular oil changes around 4-4.5k. Faced no issues what so ever, engine was still healthy, no oil consumption, almost same performance.
I run rotella T6 5w-40. Have for 120k miles and will for the next 120k
So if you review the virgin oil analysis database, it includes idemitsu 0w-20 and 5w-30 and for both, the TBN is rather weak in comparison to other more readily available blends, also, the viscosity at 9.5 cSt for a 30w, some 20w come close to that. Does any of that matter? Not a whole lot, but it shows that there's nothing special about the oil. Generally speaking, higher TBN is better.
A mi shell no me resulto buena.
