Motul 8100 xcess 5-40. I got a built shortblock and it’s the best for the boxer engine IMO
Only use Motul 8100 5w40. I have after market parts and turbo.
Only use motul. XCess gen 2 5w40 for the ‘04 wrx. I get oil samples sent to the lab on the wrx and it has consistently been improving results since switching to motul. At first they were worried about the motor and now they say it looks clean as a whistle
Always used Motul 8100 xclean 5w30 every 3k miles on the dot.
Anything from Motul Go for full synthetic and according to the grade and spec recommended by your instruction manual.
Prefer 10w40 full synthetic only.
this oil is used in a dominar 400 and has been used for roughly 1500km before the highway ride in heavy and light city traffic. my opinion of this oil so far is pros:-
it's very consistent so you know what to expect from it
maintains its smoothness even at higher rpms/ speeds
the engine remains cool on the highways but again this can be attributed to the excellent heat management liquid cooling system of Dominar 400
oil drains can be decently long 4-5k km if the motorcycle Is liquid-cooled( it will still have some life left but hey please change the oil at 5k km)
it's a clean oil, and it has detergents that will keep your engine from having sludge deposits
cons:-
as soon as the engine heats the gear shift experience is a mess, its okay to switch between gears but getting into neutral is hard
higher priced compared to other good brands like total hi perf, but lower than Castrol
also, this is a big one I've heard and read on other motorcycle forums, ester-based oils can be bad for gaskets and seals in the long run.
this oil is kinda bad to use in an air-cooled engine, because this oil evaporates and decreases in level, in an air-cooled engine this will be a mess as this oil from what I can understand and feel was designed to go into a liquid-cooled engine and this does a poor job at transferring and absorbing heat. seen many cases of oil level drop when used in an air/oil cooled motor
most importantly there are a lot of fakes of this oil in the market so to source the genuine one just go to a KTM showroom if your bike uses 10w50
verdict:- good oil for the price, looks fancy with the red colour, does its job well, and will last 5k km easily on a liquid-cooled engine
Just make sure it’s SP 0w30 I personally run the euro spec castrol which is the same at the BMW bottle. The Motul SP is also good.
I’m switching from Motul to it since Motul is hard to come by where I am, and I hate buying oil online.
It’s absolute trash, stop using it.
A little back story I just recently did an oil change in my ‘20 WRX, was using Valvoline full synthetic and decided to try out Motul, noticed my oil temps went up 4-6° and started doing some research into oil. Discovered that Motul ranks 177 out of 244 oils tested for wear protection, Amazon basics and Walmart ranked higher.
