Engine oil MOTUL or AMSOIL

AMSOIL Engine oil

AMS oil 5w40 "European Formula" after first 5k. Just dumped the first oil after 10k of hard driving. Still had lot's of life left in the oil, and no noticeable consumption as we recovered almost all of what was originally put in (4.4 of 4.5L)

Pros: long life, no consumption
Mileage: 5000 km

For what it's worth I run Amsoil 20-50 in both holes on my 01 sporty 1200, never had any issues.

Pros: no issues

MOTUL Engine oil

Sounds like you already have your answer, but yes, the Motul 8100 X-Cess is a good oil, probably better than their VW specific oil.

Pros: good oil
Vehicle: Volkswagen

In my last four VWs I've run the Amsoil 5w40 Euro Spec oil and think it is good stuff. My 1.8t engines in my old Passats ran really quiet with this oil. I changed the oil in my GTi at 2500 miles and switched to the Amsoil and have had no complaints. I'd recommend Amsoil.

Pros: good stuff, engines ran quiet
Vehicle: Volkswagen

I always ran the Motul Grand Prix in my shifter, I never had any engine problems. Still run it in my dirt bike, I love the smell of it, too.

Pros: no engine problems
